Text of Section 522 - Forms
522. Subject to the power conferred by article 227 of the Constitution, the forms set forth in the Second Schedule, with such variations as the circumstances of each case require, may be used for the respective purposes therein mentioned, and if used shall be sufficient.
What Section 522 BNSS means
Section 522 provides a statutory basis for using the forms prescribed in the Second Schedule to the BNSS. Where a form is prescribed for a particular criminal procedure, the form may be used with necessary changes suited to the facts and circumstances of the case. The section further declares that a properly used scheduled form is sufficient for the purpose for which it is prescribed.
The provision is expressly made subject to Article 227 of the Constitution of India. Article 227 gives every High Court superintendence over courts and tribunals within its territorial jurisdiction and includes authority to make general rules and prescribe forms regulating court practice and proceedings.

Why Section 522 is important

BNSS commencement
The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 is Act No. 46 of 2023. The Central Government appointed July 1, 2024 as the commencement date for the BNSS, subject to the exception stated in the commencement notification concerning the entry relating to Section 106(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 in the First Schedule.
