Current legal framework for cybercrime in India

Cyber offences may involve the Information Technology Act, 2000 as well as general criminal offences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (BNS). Criminal procedure is now governed principally by the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS), which came into force on 1 July 2024. The precise provisions depend on the alleged conduct and facts.
