How to File a Police Complaint Online with Mysuru Police
Start with the Karnataka Police website or the Mysuru District Government page for Mysuru-specific police information and contacts.
Use the official Citizen Centric Portal and select the complaint or citizen service that matches your requirement.
The portal may ask for your name, mobile number, email address, identity details, OTP verification or other authentication information.
Choose the relevant police service and provide the details requested by the portal.
Describe what happened, when and where it happened, who was involved, how the incident occurred and what evidence or documents are available.
Relevant material may include photographs, videos, receipts, agreements, screenshots, emails, messages, identity documents, ownership documents or transaction records.
Review the information before submission and retain any complaint number, reference number, SMS or email acknowledgement generated by the system.
If the complaint concerns a cognizable offence, follow up regarding FIR registration and further action. If an FIR is registered, note the FIR number and police station details.
Can an FIR Be Registered Through Electronic Communication?
Yes. Section 173(1) BNSS provides that information relating to a cognizable offence may be given to the officer in charge of a police station by electronic communication.
Where information is provided electronically, it is taken on record after being signed by the person giving it within three days. This does not mean that every online form on a police website is itself an FIR-registration form.
What if Mysuru Police Does Not Register an FIR?
If the information discloses a cognizable offence and the officer in charge refuses to record it, Section 173(4) BNSS provides a statutory remedy.
The substance of the information may be sent in writing and by post to the Superintendent of Police concerned. If the SP is satisfied that a cognizable offence is disclosed, the SP may investigate or direct an investigation in accordance with law.
The BNSS also provides a procedure for approaching the Magistrate in the circumstances specified by the statute.

False Police Complaints and Current Law

Current Law Governing FIR Registration
The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 replaced the Code of Criminal Procedure framework and contains the current provisions concerning information given to police in cognizable cases.
Section 173 BNSS deals with information in cognizable cases, while Section 174 deals with information concerning non-cognizable cases. The BNSS came into force on 1 July 2024.
