Old Punjab Police portal instructions have been removed
The earlier version of this page instructed applicants to create an account on an old http://ppsaanjh.in/ workflow and followed a screen-by-screen process. Punjab's current official information publishes Character Verification and separate PCC services through Saanjh. Applicants should use the latest Punjab Government or Punjab Police service links and forms available on the date of application.

How to Apply for Character Verification in Punjab
- Open the current Punjab Government Saanjh forms page or the current citizen-service portal and locate Character Verification.
- Check whether the service is to be submitted online, through a Saanjh Kendra, or through the relevant SSP/Commissionerate office in your district.
- Fill in the applicant's name, permanent and present address, date of birth, contact details and the purpose for which character verification is required.
- Disclose criminal cases or other legal/criminal proceedings if the application form requires such information. Do not suppress material facts.
- Attach the current supporting documents and photographs required by the prescribed form or portal.
- Submit the application, pay the current facilitation/service charge shown by the official channel and retain the acknowledgement or application number.
Documents Commonly Required
The official Punjab Character Verification form currently asks for documents supporting identity, residence and date of birth. The exact checklist can change, so follow the latest form or portal at the time of application.
- Passport-size photograph(s), as prescribed.
- School certificate or birth certificate as date-of-birth proof, where applicable.
- Residence/address proof such as voter card, driving licence, ration card, PAN or other accepted document.
- Passport copy where relevant to the purpose of verification.
- Any additional document required for the stated purpose of the Character Certificate/PCC.
Current Legal and Service-Delivery Framework
Punjab's present public-service delivery framework is governed by the Punjab Transparency and Accountability in Delivery of Public Service Act, 2018 (Punjab Act No. 16 of 2018). The Act provides for notified public services, designated officers, appellate authorities, stipulated time limits and electronic delivery of public services where applicable.
Character Verification continues to be listed as a Saanjh police service. Current Punjab Police service material identifies a 10-day stipulated period for Character Verification. A current Saanjh Character Verification form published by Punjab Police also states a 10-day stipulated time and a facilitation charge of ₹100. Because older district service tables may show different historic charges, applicants should confirm the current fee displayed by the official portal or Saanjh Kendra before payment.
Character Verification and PCC Are Not Always the Same Service
Do not select "Character Verification" merely because you need a document commonly called a police clearance certificate. Punjab Government currently lists separate Saanjh services for Character Verification, PCC for Visa, PCC for private employee verification and PCC for foreigners. Select the service matching the purpose stated by the authority, employer, embassy or institution requesting the certificate.
Track Your Application
- Keep the application or acknowledgement number issued at submission.
- Use the status facility provided by the current Saanjh/citizen-service channel, where available.
- If the stipulated period has passed, contact the relevant Saanjh Kendra or designated police office using the details on your acknowledgement.
- Where the service is notified under the Punjab public-service delivery framework, the applicable official service charter should identify the designated officer and appellate authority.

- Use only Punjab Government or Punjab Police official sites for forms and payments.
- Choose the correct service based on the actual purpose of the certificate.
- Enter the present and permanent address exactly as supported by your documents.
- Disclose criminal or legal proceedings accurately when the form asks for them.
- Check the latest fee and document list instead of relying on an old screenshot or archived guide.
