UIDAI Aadhaar Update Guide | 2026

Update Aadhaar Mobile Number & Address

Current methods for changing the mobile number or address linked with Aadhaar using the official Aadhaar app, myAadhaar portal or an authorised Aadhaar Enrolment/Update Centre.

2026 update: UIDAI's Aadhaar app currently permits mobile-number and address updates directly through the app. The process uses OTP verification and Face Authentication. If you do not have access to the old registered mobile number, or no mobile number was registered earlier, visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or authorised Aadhaar Enrolment/Update Centre.

The older SSUP procedure for changing a mobile number through a web form is no longer the correct method. UIDAI now distinguishes between the Aadhaar app, the myAadhaar web portal and assisted updates at an Aadhaar centre.

Mobile-number update Available through the official Aadhaar app in eligible cases. Centre visit is required where the old registered number is unavailable or no number was previously registered.
Address update Available through the Aadhaar app and through the myAadhaar portal, subject to UIDAI verification and applicable supporting-document requirements.
Name / DoB / gender / email These changes are not presently available through the Aadhaar app and generally require a visit to an authorised Aadhaar update centre.
Biometrics Photograph, fingerprints and iris updates require an in-person visit to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or authorised enrolment/update centre.
Information reviewed against UIDAI pages available on 29 August 2026.

Option 1: Use the official Aadhaar app

  1. Install the official Aadhaar app published for UIDAI and register your Aadhaar profile in the app.
  2. Open the mobile-number update service and enter the new mobile number.
  3. Complete the OTP verification required for the applicable UIDAI scenario.
  4. Complete Face Authentication when prompted.
  5. Pay the prescribed UIDAI update charge shown in the app and submit the request.
  6. Use the request-tracking facility to follow the status of the update.

How to update Aadhaar address online

Aadhaar address can currently be updated through the Aadhaar app and, where applicable, through the official myAadhaar portal. Online myAadhaar access uses OTP authentication on the mobile number registered with Aadhaar.

  1. Open the official myAadhaar portal or use the official Aadhaar app.
  2. Authenticate yourself as required by UIDAI.
  3. Select the address-update service.
  4. Enter the new address carefully so it corresponds with the supporting Proof of Address (PoA).
  5. Upload the required supporting document when the portal/app requests it.
  6. Review the request, pay any applicable charge displayed by UIDAI and submit it.
  7. Save the acknowledgement/request number and track the status online.

Submission does not automatically guarantee acceptance. UIDAI subjects update requests to verification and validation before they are processed.

Documents for Aadhaar address update

UIDAI accepts prescribed Proof of Address and other supporting documents. Because the acceptable-document list can be amended, use the current UIDAI list rather than relying on an old static list of utility bills or identity documents.

Document Update is different from changing an address. UIDAI separately recommends periodic document updating so the Proof of Identity and Proof of Address supporting an Aadhaar record remain current.
