Section 62 of the Chit Funds Act, 1982: Inspection of Documents in Registrar's Office
Section 62 gives specified persons connected with a chit a statutory facility to inspect documents of that chit kept by the Registrar and to obtain a certified copy or extract, subject to payment of the prescribed fee.
What Section 62 provides

The foreman of a chit, any subscriber in a chit, or the heirs or legal representatives of a foreman or subscriber may, on payment of the prescribed fee:
(a) inspect the documents of the concerned chit kept by the Registrar; or
(b) obtain a certified copy or an extract of any such document or record.
The provision is located in Chapter XI of the Chit Funds Act, 1982, dealing with appointment of officers and levy of fees. The official India Code text should be consulted where the precise statutory wording is required.
Who can inspect the documents?
The right under Section 62 is available to the foreman of the chit, a subscriber in the chit, and the heirs or legal representatives of a foreman or subscriber. The right therefore relates to persons having the connection with the chit expressly identified by the provision.

Meaning of important terms
Foreman
For the Chit Funds Act, the term "foreman" is defined in Section 2 and broadly refers to the person who is responsible for conducting the chit and whose name is mentioned as foreman in the chit agreement.
Subscriber
A "subscriber" is also a defined expression under Section 2 and refers to a person who subscribes to a chit. Section 62 extends the inspection and copy facility to such subscribers as well as the specified heirs or legal representatives.
Registrar
Section 61 provides for appointment by the State Government of a Registrar of Chits and other officers for carrying out duties under the Act. Section 62 concerns documents of the relevant chit kept in the Registrar's office.
Prescribed fee and procedure
Section 62 does not itself state a fixed rupee amount. It makes inspection and certified copies or extracts subject to payment of "such fees as may be prescribed." The applicable fee and procedural requirements should therefore be checked under the rules and notifications applicable in the relevant State or Union Territory.
Practical point: Before applying, identify the chit, the document or record required, the applicant's capacity (for example, subscriber or legal representative), and the applicable prescribed fee. Requirements may vary under the rules in force in the relevant jurisdiction.
