[23 rd September, 1948.]

An Act to consolidate and amend the law regulating labour in factories.

WHEREAS it is expedient to consolidate and amend the law regulating labour in factories;
It is hereby enacted as follows:--

CHAPTER I PRELIMINARY

Section 1. Short title, extent and commencement.

(1) This Act may be called the Factories Act, 1948.

(2) It extends to the whole of India

(3) It shall come into force on the 1st day of April 1949.
