How to View FIR Online with Chhattisgarh Police

1. Visit the official Chhattisgarh Police website

   Open the Chhattisgarh Police Citizen Service Portal. The portal currently lists View FIR and Case Status Search among its citizen services.

2. Select the "View FIR" service

   From the Citizen Services section, select View FIR. You can also directly access the official View FIR page.

   The current search page displays fields for District, Police Station, From Date and To Date.

3. Select the District

   Select the district in which the FIR was registered.

4. Select the Police Station

   Select the concerned police station from the list. Make sure you choose the police station where the FIR was registered.

5. Enter the date range

   Enter a From Date and To Date. Use a reasonably narrow date range where possible to make it easier to identify the required FIR.

6. Click "Search"

   After entering the required information, click Search. Available results may include:

   • FIR Number
   • Name of Complainant
   • Name of Accused Person
   • Act / Section
   • Remarks
   • Preview / Download option

7. Find the required FIR

   Check the FIR number, complainant's name, accused person's name and other available details to identify the correct FIR.

8. Preview or download the FIR

   Where the FIR is available for public viewing, use the Preview / Download option displayed against the relevant record.

How to Check FIR Status Online in Chhattisgarh

FIR law in Chhattisgarh - Section 173 BNSS

The law relating to registration of information concerning cognizable offences changed with the introduction of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS).

The BNSS came into force on 1 July 2024, replacing the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, subject to the statutory transition provisions.

Section 173 BNSS deals with information relating to cognizable offences. It provides that information concerning a cognizable offence may be given orally or by electronic communication, irrespective of the area where the offence was committed. Where information is given electronically, it is taken on record after it is signed by the person giving it within three days.

Accordingly, older webpages that explain FIR registration solely by referring to Section 154 of the CrPC should be updated to reflect the present legal framework under Section 173 BNSS.
