1. Open the official Chhattisgarh Police mobile search page

   Visit the Stolen/Lost/Seized Mobile Search.

2. Check whether FIR or LPR is available

   The page asks whether an FIR or Lost Property Registration (LPR) has been registered. Select the option that applies.

3. Select the District

   If FIR/LPR-based search is applicable, choose the district where the report was registered.

4. Select the Police Station

   Select the concerned police station corresponding to the FIR/LPR record.

5. Enter the FIR Number, where applicable

   Enter the FIR number exactly as recorded in the police documents.

6. Select the Year

   Select the FIR/LPR registration year where requested.

7. Enter the IMEI Number

   The search facility provides an IMEI field. A handset may have more than one IMEI, particularly dual-SIM devices.

8. Click Search

   If a matching police record is available, the portal will display relevant lost, stolen or seized mobile information.

The online search can help determine whether the relevant IMEI appears in Chhattisgarh Police records of lost, stolen or seized mobile devices.

What if the Mobile Phone is Lost but No FIR has Been Registered?

The Chhattisgarh Police service specifically recognises Lost Property Registration (LPR) in addition to an FIR. A person who has reported a mobile as lost should therefore not assume that an FIR is required in every lost-property situation.

If the phone was simply lost, follow the applicable Chhattisgarh Police lost-property procedure. If the circumstances indicate theft or another cognizable offence, provide the facts accurately to the police and obtain the appropriate police record.

Use CEIR / Sanchar Saathi to Block a Lost or Stolen Mobile

The Chhattisgarh Police database search is only one part of the process. For a lost or stolen mobile, you can also use the Government of India's Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) through Sanchar Saathi.

Steps to block a lost or stolen mobile through CEIR

1. Report the loss or theft to the police and keep a copy of the report.
2. Obtain a replacement SIM for the lost mobile number from your telecom operator.
3. Keep the IMEI number and relevant documents ready.
4. Open the official CEIR / Sanchar Saathi portal.
5. Select the option to block a stolen/lost mobile.
6. Enter the mobile and device details.
7. Provide the required police complaint/report details.
8. Complete OTP verification and submit the request.
9. Save the CEIR Request ID.

The CEIR status facility accepts the Request ID or Complaint Number. This is different from the Chhattisgarh Police stolen/lost/seized mobile search.

What if the Lost Mobile is Recovered?

If your phone is subsequently found, follow the CEIR unblocking procedure rather than simply continuing to use a device whose IMEI has been blocked.

The CEIR system provides an Un-Block Found Mobile facility. Where the phone was reported through State Police, the State Police may need to be approached for the unblocking process.

How to Find the IMEI Number of a Mobile Phone

If you still have the handset, the IMEI can commonly be displayed by dialling *#06#.

For a phone that has already been lost, check:

• Original mobile box
• Purchase invoice
• Previous device records
• Telecom/operator records
• Account/device information associated with the handset

What is the Law Relating to Theft of a Mobile Phone?

The current substantive criminal law is the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (BNS), which came into force on 1 July 2024, subject to applicable transition provisions.

Section 303 BNS - Theft

Section 303 BNS deals with theft. A mobile phone is movable property, so the provision may apply where the facts satisfy the statutory requirements.

Section 304 BNS - Snatching

Section 304 BNS deals with snatching and may be relevant where property is suddenly or forcibly grabbed from a person in circumstances falling within the statutory definition.

Section 173 BNSS deals with information relating to cognizable offences and recognises information given by electronic communication subject to statutory requirements.

A lost-property report, online complaint or LPR should not automatically be described as an FIR. Whether an FIR is registered depends on the facts and applicable law.

What Should You Do Immediately After Losing a Mobile?

1. Try to locate the phone using the device-location service associated with your handset, where available.
2. Contact your telecom operator and protect or block the SIM.
3. Report the loss or theft to the police.
4. Keep the IMEI number safely available.
5. Use the Chhattisgarh Police lost/stolen mobile search facility where applicable.
6. Submit a CEIR request to block the IMEI.
7. Change passwords for important accounts accessible through the phone.
8. Notify your bank or payment-service provider if there is a risk of unauthorised access.
9. Preserve the police complaint/FIR/LPR and CEIR Request ID.
10. If the phone is recovered, follow the applicable police and CEIR unblocking procedure.

What if the Mobile is Not Found in the Chhattisgarh Police Search?

A mobile not appearing in the online search does not necessarily establish that it has not been reported lost or stolen.

Check the IMEI number, FIR number, year, district, police station and LPR/police complaint details. If the information is correct but no record is displayed, contact the concerned police station for clarification.
