Important:An online complaint and an FIR are not necessarily the same thing. Submitting a complaint online does not, by itself, mean that an FIR has been registered. The Haryana Police website currently states that Complaint Registration is an online citizen service and that there is no fee for registering a complaint through the portal.
Online complaint and FIR: What is the difference?
A police complaint is information given to the police regarding an alleged offence or other matter requiring police attention. An FIR (First Information Report) is the formal recording of information relating to a cognizable offence.
Under Section 173 of the BNSS, 2023, information relating to the commission of a cognizable offence may be given orally or by electronic communication to the officer in charge of a police station, irrespective of the area where the offence was committed. Therefore, the Haryana Police online complaint facility should not be described as a facility through which every online complaint automatically becomes an FIR.

How to register a complaint online with Haryana Police
The Haryana Police website has been updated from the older interface described in many older online guides. The present portal provides a Citizen Login system and specifically states that Harsamay citizen-login credentials are used for citizen services.

Step 4: Select Complaint Registration

The exact menu names or appearance of the portal may change from time to time as Haryana Police updates its website.
Step 5: Enter the complaint details
Provide the information requested by the online form. Depending on the service and the nature of the complaint, this may include:

What happens after an online complaint?

What if the police do not register an FIR?
