If you want to apply for renewal or reissue of passport in India, you can apply online by filling the online Passport Renewal Application form.
To use online facility to apply for a passport, read the complete guide. Online application for renewal / reissue of passport can be submitted through www.passportindia.gov.in. Before starting the process to apply passport online, please keep the original expired passport and all other documents handy. To apply for renewal of passport through the website you have to register as a new user or if you are already registered you can use your username and password to logon to the website. What are the steps to apply for Renewal / Reissue of Passport online?
Step 1. Visit the Passport Seva Online Portal
Step 2. Register through the Passport Seva Online Portal. Hit on Register now button on the home page or if you are already registered you can use your user name and password.
Step 3. Logon to Passport Seva Online Portal with the Registered Login ID
Step 4. Hit on "Apply for Fresh Passport / Reissue of Passport" Link. For renewal of passport you must chose the reissue link only.
Step 5. Fill in the required details in the form accurately and submit
Step 6. Click the "Pay and Schedule Appointment" link on the "view saved /submitted applications" screen to schedule an appointment
Online Payment
Online Payment has been paid mandatory for booking appointment at all passport seva kendras / Passport offices. Online payment can me made by using any one of the of the following methods:
- Credit / Debit Card (Master Card / Visa)
- Internet Banking of SBI and associated Banks
- State Bank of India Bank Challan
Step 7. Click "the Print application receipt" to print application receipt containing Application Reference Number (ARN) / Appointment Number
Step 8. On the day of appointment visit the Passport office where appointment has been booked along with original documents. In case of renewal or reissue of passport original expired passport also should be carried for verification.
1. Take print out the online form that you printed out with the Application Reference number ( ARN ) and carry with you. It is mandatory to have this document with you.
2. Original Old Passport that is expiring or expired
If the address is same as in your Old Passport :
You do NOT need anything other than photo copy of your passport
first page, last page and the page with ECNR info. Do
self-attestation ( your own signature)
3. Your current address proof like a utility bill or Bank statement or Voter card, etc… see below for some of those documents.
For Change in Address – Different one from your Old passport

Just like above, first, last and ECNR page photo copy with self
attestation
Address proof of change in address – Any one of the the following.
Utility bills like Water, Telephone, Electricity Bills – You need at least for 2 months of which one should be of current year and other should be of previous year.
Proof of gas connection.
Ration Card with address.
Bank Statement for 1 year, Passbook of the bank account with address on it.
Any of the cards like Adhar card, Voter ID, etc.
Add Spouse Name, Change:
If you want to add your spouse name, carry original and photo copy of your marriage certificate. Keep a self attested photo copy.
If you plan to change any details like names, etc, you need to carry original with photo copy signed by you.
There are other set of documents that you can get off the website. The above are very common ones.
Step 1. Download the e-Form through the "Download e-Form" link available on the Home Page.
Step 2. Fill the downloaded e-Form and click the Validate and Save button in it. This will generate an XML file, which will be required later for uploading in the system.
Step 3. Register through the Passport Seva Online Portal. (Hit on "Register Now" link on the Home Page).
Step 4. Login to the Passport Seva Online Portal with the registered Login Id.
Step 5. Upload the XML file (generated in Step 2) through the "Upload e-Form" link.Do not upload the PDF form at this stage as only XML file is accepted by the system.
Step 6. Click the "Pay and Schedule Appointment" link on the "View Saved/Submitted Applications" screen to schedule an appointment.

Note:
1. For emergency/medical cases and pre-approved categories may
visit Passport Seva Kendra without appointment. Service will be
provided at the discretion of Passport Seva Kendra
in-charge/Passport Officer.
2. In case of minor applicants (below 4 years of age), carry the recent passport size photograph (4.5 X 3.5 cm) with white background.
3. Resubmission of application form is required, in case the applicant does not visit the Passport Seva Kendra within 90 days from the online form submission.
