PAN Card Correction Online through UTIITSL

How to update or correct details linked with your Permanent Account Number (PAN), including name, date of birth, address and other permitted particulars, using the official UTIITSL PAN services portal.

Updated: 30 August 2026

PAN correction and update: current position

A person who already has a PAN and finds that the PAN database contains an incorrect or outdated detail can submit a request for change or correction through an authorised PAN service channel. UTI Infrastructure Technology and Services Limited (UTIITSL) provides an online PAN services portal for this purpose.

Legal update: From 1 April 2026, the Income-tax Act, 2025 and the Income-tax Rules, 2026 form the current statutory framework for income-tax administration. Existing PAN numbers continue to remain valid. Use the current forms, instructions and options displayed by the authorised PAN service provider when filing a correction request.

Common correction requests may involve the PAN holder's name, date of birth or incorporation, gender where applicable, communication details, photograph, signature or other particulars permitted by the current application process. A correction request updates the data associated with an existing PAN; it should not be used to obtain an additional PAN.

Important: Portal screens, document requirements, e-KYC options and fees can change. Always check the amount and submission method displayed on the official UTIITSL portal before payment.

How to apply for PAN correction online through UTIITSL

  1. Open the official UTIITSL PAN portal.
Use pan.utiitsl.com and choose the service for change or correction in existing PAN data.
  2. Select the appropriate correction service.
Choose the option relating to changes/correction in PAN data or the equivalent wording displayed on the current portal.
  3. Enter your existing PAN and applicant details.
Provide the information requested by the portal and complete OTP or other verification, where applicable.
  4. Select the fields that require correction.
Enter the corrected particulars carefully. Ensure spelling, date of birth and other identity information match the supporting records you intend to rely on.
  5. Choose the available verification/submission mode.
Depending on eligibility and the portal options, the application may support Aadhaar-based electronic verification or another prescribed document-submission process.
  6. Provide supporting documents.
Upload or submit the proof required for the particular field being changed, along with proof of PAN and any other document requested by the portal.
  7. Review the application before submission.
Check your PAN, corrected data, contact details, delivery preference and document information before proceeding.
  8. Pay the applicable fee.
Use the payment options shown on the official portal. Do not rely on old fee tables because charges and delivery options may change.
  9. Save the acknowledgement/reference number.
Keep the generated acknowledgement or application reference safely. It is normally required for tracking and further communication.
  10. Complete any further submission requirement shown on the acknowledgement.
If the selected mode requires physical documents, follow the current address, deadline and instructions printed on the acknowledgement. If the process is completed electronically, a separate paper submission may not be required.

Documents for PAN correction

The exact documents depend on the applicant category and the field being corrected. The UTIITSL portal should be treated as the final source for the current document list. In general, keep the following ready before starting:

  • Existing PAN details or copy of PAN/e-PAN.
  • Proof of identity accepted for the applicant category.
  • Proof of address where the communication address is being updated or where required by the application.
  • Proof of date of birth where the date of birth is being corrected.
  • Document supporting a change of name or other relevant particulars, where applicable.
  • Recent photograph/signature files where the portal requires them for the selected mode.

Names, dates and other particulars should be entered exactly as supported by the documents. A mismatch may also affect PAN-Aadhaar linking or KYC with banks and financial institutions.

PAN and Aadhaar mismatch

If PAN-Aadhaar linking fails because the name, date of birth or other identity details do not match, the Income Tax Department advises correcting the relevant details in either the PAN database or Aadhaar database so that both records match.

After a correction is processed, you can use the Income Tax Department's Verify Your PAN service to check PAN details/status and refer to the official Link Aadhaar guidance where relevant.

How to track a PAN correction request

Use the acknowledgement/application reference generated by UTIITSL and the tracking facility available on the official PAN portal. Keep the acknowledgement until the correction is completed and the updated PAN/e-PAN is available.

For an independent check of whether a PAN is active and whether basic PAN database details are available, use the Income Tax Department's official PAN verification service.
