Official MCD Birth & Death Registration Portal

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi provides its current Birth & Death Registration service through the official MCD portal. Use the official portal for registration, certificate-related services and the latest instructions.

Important: For an institutional birth, such as a birth in a hospital, the institution is responsible for reporting the event under the birth-registration framework. MCD advises users to contact the institution where appropriate before starting a separate registration request.

How to Search, Verify or Download an MCD Birth Certificate

  1. Open the official MCD Birth & Death Registration portal using the button above.
  2. Choose the relevant citizen service for birth registration, certificate search, verification or download.
  3. Enter the information requested by the MCD portal. The available search screen may ask for a registration number or application number along with birth and parent details.
  4. Complete the captcha or other verification shown on the portal and submit the search.
  5. If a matching record is available, review the displayed particulars and use the portal option provided for the current certificate or related service.

Birth Certificates Issued Earlier by SDMC

Older South Delhi birth records may still refer to SDMC because they were created before municipal unification. For current online service, verification and updated certificates, use the unified MCD portal rather than discontinued SDMC service pages.

MCD has advised that revised certificates have been issued where necessary to provide unique registration numbers after municipal unification. If an older certificate does not verify correctly, obtain the latest available certificate from the official MCD portal.

Law Governing Birth Registration

Birth registration is governed primarily by the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969, as amended by the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Act, 2023. The 2023 amendment came into force on 1 October 2023 and introduced, among other changes, statutory support for digital registration and electronic delivery of birth and death certificates.

The Act also provides for search of birth and death registers and issue of certificates from registered records, subject to the Act and applicable rules.
