Applicable law from 1 April 2026: the Income-tax Act, 2025 is in force for tax year 2026-27 onwards. The donation deduction corresponding to former Section 80G is now contained in Section 133. Section 133(1)(a)(xv) covers a State Chief Minister's Relief Fund that satisfies the statutory conditions.

Income-tax deduction for donation to the UP CM Relief Fund

A qualifying donation to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund of a State falls within the category for deduction of the whole eligible donation under Section 133(1)(a), subject to the fund satisfying the statutory conditions and the donor being eligible to claim the deduction.

For tax years beginning before 1 April 2026, the Income-tax Act, 1961 continues to govern and the corresponding deduction was claimed under Section 80G. The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister's Office continues to state that donations to this fund are eligible for income-tax relief.

Cash-payment restriction: a donation exceeding ₹2,000 should be paid through a non-cash mode if the donor intends to claim the statutory deduction. Retain the official receipt or payment acknowledgement.
