Search District and Taluka Court Case Status by Case Type

The official eCourts Services portal provides a dedicated Case Type search for District and Taluka Court matters. This option is useful when you know the category of the case but may not know its case number, filing number, party name or advocate details.

What is Search by Case Type?

Search by Case Type allows you to retrieve cases belonging to a selected case category for a specified registration year and status. The current eCourts Case Status interface requires users to select the Case Type, enter the Case Registration Year, choose Pending or Disposed, and enter the Captcha before searching.

This search is different from Search by Act Type. Act Type search is used when you want to locate cases under a particular statute or section, while Case Type search is based on the procedural or registry category assigned to the case.

Steps to search a case by Case Type

  1. Open the official eCourts Case Status page. Use the official service button above.
  2. Select the State. Choose the State or Union Territory relating to the concerned District Court.
  3. Select the District. Choose the district where the case is registered.
  4. Select the Court Complex. Choose the relevant court complex and, where required, the Establishment.
  5. Select "Case Type". Choose the Case Type search option from the Case Status interface.
  6. Select the required Case Type. Choose the appropriate case category from the list displayed on the portal.
  7. Enter the Case Registration Year. Type the year in which the case was registered.
  8. Select Pending or Disposed. Choose the appropriate case status.
  9. Enter the Captcha. Type the characters displayed by the official portal.
  10. Click "Go". The portal will display the list of cases satisfying the selected Case Type condition.
  11. Open Case History. Click the adjacent View button for the relevant case to see its available case history and details.

If you do not know the Case Type

If you do not know the Case Type, eCourts Case Status provides other search options, including Party Name, Case Number, Filing Number, Advocate Name, FIR Number and Act Type. If you know the 16-character alphanumeric CNR number, you can use the CNR search facility to retrieve the case directly.

Case Type names and abbreviations can vary between courts and establishments. Select the correct State, District, Court Complex and Establishment before choosing the Case Type, and verify the party names, case number and other particulars in the search result before relying on it.
