Surat Birth Certificate Online: Search, Download, Print & Verify
Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) provides online birth-certificate services through its Virtual Civic Center. The correct route depends on the date on which the birth was registered.
How to search a Surat birth certificate online
- Open the official SMC Birth Certificate service. Use the SMC Virtual Civic Center and choose Birth Certificate.
- Select Search & Enroll Birth Certificate. For records supported by the SMC legacy facility, you can search by birth details or certificate number.
- Enter the required search information. Choose Gujarati or English and provide the available registration details.
- Complete the captcha and search. If a matching record is available, follow the portal options to enrol, obtain, print or manage the certificate.
- For newer registrations, use the Gujarat system. If the birth was registered on or after 1 April 2020 and is unavailable in the SMC legacy search, use the Gujarat eOlakh/CRS route or the current SMC online-service workflow.
Details you may need

Download, print, check status or verify
The SMC Virtual Civic Center currently lists Birth Certificate options for Get/Print Birth Certificate, Search & Enroll, Verify Certificate and Check Status. Use the service that matches your requirement instead of relying on an old bookmarked transaction page.
For an old SMC receipt or transaction, the current Check Status page can search using registration details, transaction ID or reference number, subject to the fields required by the portal.
Current law on birth registration
Birth registration in India is governed by the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969, as amended. The 2023 Amendment Act came into force on 1 October 2023. Under the presently operative Section 13, delayed information given after 30 days but within one year requires written permission of the District Registrar or other prescribed authority, prescribed fee, and the prescribed self-attested document. Where information is given after one year, the presently operative provision requires an order of the District Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Magistrate or an Executive Magistrate authorised by the District Magistrate, along with verification and the prescribed fee.
